Will Shyne Be Able To Shine?
In 1999, Moses Leviy who was born into the world Jamal Barrow better known to the world as Shyne, began serving a ten year sentence for a shoot out at a nightclub in NYC; that also involved his then record label CEO Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs and his then girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.
In October 2009, Shyne was released from prison and in February this year, he inked a seven figure record deal with Def Jam in conjunction with his own Gangland Records.
Shyne will drop his first long awaited single on this Tuesday (April 13th). It's been 10 years and we all know how fickle the American audience can be. His only promotion will be radio play and billboards; that's because he has been banned from entering the United States and the United Kingdom.
In my opinion, this is truly ridiculous. The man has done his time and paid his debt (or Puffy's debt, depending on who you ask) to society. Because of this, the album is being recorded in his homeland of Belize. The majority of his album is being produced by Scott Storch (The Roots, Jay-Z, Lil Kim).
I wish this brother well and hope he goes on to continue the success he had before his unfortunate situation.
