For Colored Girls Movie Trailer

OMG This looks so powerful! I pray this will change some minds about how they feel about Tyler Perry being in charge of this film adaptation of this classic stage play. This film which will be released on November 5th, 2010 has so much star power, that it makes one want to see it for the names alone, but judging from this sneak peek, these stars put their everything into each role. So I say,go to the actual theaters to support this film. Do NOT go to your local bootlegger, SUPPORT BLACK CINEMA!!!

For Colored Girls...The Movie

The hit Stage play and book For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf is now a movie written and directed by Tyler Perry. When the news was first announced that Tyler Perry was to be in charge of this poetic classic, black women everywhere became enraged; already judging the film before it had began production. First they were upset that a man would tell the stories of women of color, second the man was Tyler Perry; I guess maybe they feared he would cast himself as Madea in one of the roles? I'm only guessing.

Nevertheless, everyone whether glad, sad or mad that Tyler is directing,is sitting on edge waiting to see the movie. Originally slated to open in theaters January 2011, the date has now moved to November 5th of this year.
With an all star cast line up, I'm praying this will be an Oscar Award winning movie.

CAST:
Janet Jackson- Joanna
Anika Noni Rose-Yasmine
Tessa Thompson- Nyla
Kerry Washington- Kelly
Kimberly Elise- Crystal
Phylicia Rashad- Gilda
Thandie Newton- Tangie
Loretta Devine- Juanita

The movie also stars Whoopi Goldberg and Isaiah Mustafa (The Old Spice Guy).

VMA AWARDS 2010

So last night was the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards which was hosted by Chelsea Handler who's known for her E! Television show Chelsea Lately. It was the first time in it's history the VMA's were hosted by a woman.Chelsea made her entrance coming out of the ceiling dressed as Lady GaGa. Chelsea had some funny antics all night, but this one was not only hilarious, but the read of them all. She auto tuned her voice when talking with Jason Derulo and Ke$ha:

another highlight and sort of controversial moment was Taylor Swift's performance. Her song dedicated to Kanye West in my opinion was brilliant. She took the words from her diary and made it into a song. Everyone thought she was going to come out and blast Kanye, but she actually came from a mature perspective and moreso understanding. In the song she says "32 and still growing up, who you are is not what you did" may sound like a read, but it's the truth and I believe she came from a real and true place. You tell me what you think.

MTV allowed Kanye to comeback and had him close out the show. His song to me was HOT! I LOVED it. It's a classic Kanye don't give a damn! type of song. The song is titled Runaway. The lyrics are The READ!!

Detroit 300: U ALL Get A Standing Ovation!

Knowing about a crime and not saying anything makes one just as guilty as the one (or ones) who committed the crime. Fear plagues the hearts of many, afraid of becoming another victim or statistic of the streets. All we've heard is STOP SNITCHING! My question is what if the crime was committed against a friend or loved one such as your son, daughter, father, mother or grandmother? Wouldn't you want someone to come forth and say what they saw or what they've heard? Of course you would!
Right now, I want to commend a group of citizens who call themselves the Detroit 300 for standing and coming against the street rule of NO SNITCHING! This group was formed after a 90 year old woman was raped and robbed on the city's west side at the hands of three teenagers; I don't know what's in the water, but it takes a sick motherfucker to even think of raping a senior citizen.
The Detroit 300 are credited by the police for the tips that lead to the arrests made in this despicable case.
I hope this video will encourage at least some of you to go against the no snitching rule if you see something happening.Just think if it were you, you'd want someone to come forth with what they knew.

TD JAKES : BUT GOD!

As you all know, I'm not a fan of most televangelists; I don't hate them, I just strongly dislike what they stand for and are about. However, there are a few I honestly feel are mandated by GOD to minister HIS word and show HIS people the way.
I believe in my heart TD Jakes is one of those ministers. Now, no I haven't agreed with everything he's said or decisions he's made, but I believe HE is called by GOD and when you are one of GOD's chosen, NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST YOU SHALL PROSPER! When I say chosen by GOD, I'm not only speaking of ministers because many of us are called to do a work and to make sure HIS work is complete, GOD will protect you from harm's way. This testimony is amazing and mind blowing. Sit back, listen and I pray it will touch your heart and allow you to see the power of GOD.

HAPPY PRIDE!!

Wassup to all the KIDZ!? well, as you all know, it's Pride season. This weekend there are two Pride events. Miami Sizzle and Washington DC's Black Pride. I just want to say to all of you who are attending these functions to be careful, I pray you all have safe travels, and be safe in all of your activities.

I have to give it up to J.Holiday who's the headline act now that Wale backed out of performing. When are these artists going to get it? They have gay fans as well as heterosexual fans and just because they're performing at a gay pride event, doesn't mean they will be perceived as being gay...Jeesh!

Please enjoy this video from Kid Fury, I LOVE HIM! He is really the truth!

What's Really Goin On?

Hey Readers! I have been blown away; there are recent stories out there that have blown my dreads back. Well here's one I want to discuss. In Conyers, GA a set of 16 yr old twins brutally beat, stabbed and killed their mother. The twins whose names are Tasmiyah and Jasmiyah Whitehead better known as Tas and Jas flagged down a sheriff deputy after they came home from school on the afternoon of January 13th.They claimed to have found their mother lying in this state, but the authorities suspected the twins from the start when evidence proved Ms.Whitehead knew her killer or killers.

Now that this tragedy has occurred, neighbors and friends are coming forward saying how she was afraid of her daughters, they were troublesome teens. Even her boyfriend of ten years said " I'm not at all surprised they have been arrested, but I highly doubt it was their idea" He honestly believes another family member is involved.

These girls were no angels. They were sent away to live with their great grandmother when their mother could no longer control them. While living with the 80 year old woman, they terrorized and stole from her. She had to purchase a deadbolt lock for her bedroom door to prevent them from entering and stealing money. When they returned home, the twins stole $200.00 from their mother 8 days before they killed her.

Here's a quote from CBS news.com "The mother was kind of afraid that something like that might happen," neighbor Angela Avery told CBS affiliate WGCL. "I can't explain why because the mother didn't do a lot of talking, but she did have that particular fear. Yes, she did."

My question is, what's really going on? When did it become so common for children to kill their parents with no remorse? During the questioning procedure, Officials say neither twin showed any signs of sorrow or remorse. My mind goes to the bible where it speaks on Unnatural affection; and this right here is a sign and example of Unnatural affection.

I honestly believe someone knows something and isn't coming forward. Too many people know vivid details of how this entire family operates. Just Five days before the incident, Ms.Whitehead threw a welcome home diner party for the girls. Despite what happened in the past, she was determined to gain control and make and mold her daughters into the sweet little girls they once were. All she wanted was for them to be a happy family.

I'm not a parent, but I still say if your children are so unruly that they've been removed from the home once for attacking you, don't let their asses back in! A lot of these kids of today are unruly, out of hand, angry, bitter, and just flat out fucked up.

I often wonder what makes them this way? Some of it's a lack of parenting skills, but what else is it? Y'all, we as adults have to come together and be a solution, start showing LOVE. Somewhere, the bottom line is there is a lack of unconditional love somewhere beneath it all. We as a people have to learn to LOVE GOD, Ourselves and each other.

Janet's New Look

Toya minus Tiny

I'm sure by now all of you have heard about the cancellation of the hit BET show Tiny & Toya. I for one couldn't get into the show and never saw the purpose in it. Well, according to several blog sources, T.I. apparently feels the same way. He has issued BET with a cease and desist order and for them to stop production immediately!

According to several sources, T.I. watched the program while incarcerated and was totally embarrassed by the way BET portrayed his fiance'. The only reason he agreed to "allow" her to do the show was so she could have her own income and for her to revive her career. BET says they have no plans on pulling the show mid season; I guess T.I. thought he had that much pull? Well, obviously he has some when it comes to Tiny. Starting next season, Tiny will no longer be apart of the show and the show will focus solely on Toya. The show will follow her as a mother, author and reality superstar? Okay..superstar...well, I'll talk about that word in a later blog because it's really being thrown around very loosely!

Well, I guess Tiny will return to being T.I.'s baby mama..WoW! Well, I wish her the best in whatever she decides to do.
Hmmm..now if we can just get Frankie & Neffe off the air.

Is It Really Our Business?

Hey Readers! The other day, I was in my monthly forum meeting and by coincidence, Queen Latifah's name came into conversation. We were discussing black celebrities vs. White celebrities and the difference between them coming out of the closet.
One guy stated:" It's really no one's business how Queen Latifah lives her life..." and I for one happen to agree with him.

I honestly think we have access and are privy to too much information of our favorite and not so favorite celebrities. Well, here we are again with information about the Queen and her friend/personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins; seems the twosome have purchased a million dollar home in the Hollywood Hills area(For Full story go to www.realestalker.blogspot.com).

Why this is considered important is beyond me, If she purchased the home with her male personal trainer would it have been considered news? would it have been a big deal? If she were a white celebrity, would it still be a big deal? In my honest opinion, NO!

The black community places too much emphasis on a person's sexuality. So what if she and Jeanette are a couple; that has nothing to do with her being a successful and outstanding rapper/singer/actress/producer/spokesperson/and entrepreneur.

If she never discloses her sexual preference publicly that's fine. She nor any other celebrity doesn't owe us anything except good music and movies. She is to do only what we pay for her to do. I just wish the black community would get a clue and start concentrating on the things that truly matter.

Farewell Ms.Horne 1917-2010

On last night, the world lost an incredible and wonderful woman named Lena Horne. Lena Mary Calhoun Horne was born June 30th,1917.Here is the story according to Entertainment Weekly:

Lena Horne, the ground-breaking singer, actress and civil rights activist who, in 1942, became the first African-American performer to be put under contract by a major studio, died on Sunday, May 9, at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. She was 92. According to the New York Times, Horne’s death was announced by her son-in-law, Kevin Buckley.

Though her movie career spanned nearly six decades and included a smattering of well-regarded films, like Stormy Weather (1943), Ziegfeld Follies (1946), and Meet Me in Las Vegas (1956), Horne was best known for her singing. Her music highpoints include blockbuster collaborations with Tony Bennett, Grammy-winning recordings of her Vegas nightclub act (1981′s The Lady and Her Music, Live on Broadway, and 1995′s An Evening With Lena Horne), and her Tony-nominated performance in the Broadway musical, Calypso. Horne grew up in an upper-middle-class African American enclave of Brooklyn, raised primarily by her grandparents after age 3, when both her parents left the family. By the time she was 16, Horne had scored a regular singing gig at Manhattan’s Cotton Club. Her knack for dramatic flourish and romantic renditions of jazz standards led to appearances on TV variety shows including The Ed Sullivan Show and The Dean Martin Show, as well as a role in the big-screen musical, The Duke Is Tops (1938). Though she never found the substantial, satisfying work she sought on film, Horne did make an impact, later in life, on TV in recurring roles on The Muppet Show and The Cosby Show.

Throughout her career, Horne was equally dedicated to her advocacy for civil rights. She was an early pioneer in the movement for equality, fighting for desegregation alongside such legends of the movement as Paul Robeson and Medgar Evers. She also fought with first lady Eleanor Roosevelt to pass anti-lynching laws. The combination of Horne’s disarming talent and fierce individuality created a powerful force in breaking down racial barriers in Hollywood and beyond.

Horne is survived by her daughter, Gail Lumet Buckley. Horne’s husband and her son both died in 1971, the latter of kidney failure

I Don't Get It!

Wassup Readers? I came across something that caught my eye on Necole Bitchie's blog and I had to add my 2 cents to this story about the talentless LisaRaye.

Vibe Magazine caught up with actress LisaRaye and followed her around with cameras for a “Day In the Life Of…” pictorial. During her exclusive video interview, she talks about why her marriage failed, why she decided to do a reality TV show and being a gold digger.

On her marriage to Premier Misick:
“Maybe I didn’t give my relationship the time to get close. I let a lot pf people into the relationship. I didn’t make time to be a wife.

On why she decided to do reality tv:
“When I first decided to do a reality tv I needed money. It was a business decision.”

On being perceived as a “gold digger”:
“People think that I’m a gold digger. I’m digging for platinum. I can’t do nothing with a Burger King man unless he own about 20 or 30 of them.”- courtesey of NecoleBitchie.com

Now, we all know why her marriage didn't work; she was after two things, money and prestige. That is no foundation for any relationship. Her reality TV show is a complete farce! You can tell it's scripted and when I saw Ray Cunningham (From BET's College Hill Season 5) as a guest at her daughter's birthday party I was done. She can't even act in her own UN Real reality TV show which ought to be renamed (in the words of Deana Dean) a shitcom!
I guess my rant falls under disgusted! I'm sick and disgusted over no talented people invading my TV screen and my radio!

Yes LisaRaye is a beautiful sistah (on the outside), but what talent has she displayed worthy of being on television? There are women who have more talent in their pinky finger than she does in her entire body! Can we please return to the days when talent was a requirement for the arts?

A Possible Collaboration?

Now here's something I would have NEVER thought to put together..Michelle Williams and LeToya Luckett..Singing...Together!?
Well, this collaboration happened during LeToya's R&B Live Tonight set.
For a few weeks, Michelle has been hinting at something on her Twitter account.
Maybe this scene is a set up for a future song? project? or something, but I have to be honest. While I LOVE LeToya Luckett's vocal abilities, at the same time I loathe Michelle Williams vocals. Now don't get it twisted, I love her background vocals, she can blend and harmonize like no other, but leading?..UUh...yeah! so we'll see what's to become of this if anything.

Does It Really Matter?

It seems whenever a popular entertainer dies, someone wants to come along and make a statement and say they were really gay. This type of thing goes as far back as the deaths of Lucille Ball, Phyllis Hyman, Marvin Gaye and countless others and now this time is no different. People are making accusations that the late Hip Hop pioneer Guru of the popular group GangStarr and his DJ Solar were more than friends, a lot more than DJ and Emcee. They're going as far as saying Solar was Guru's abusive lover.

Here's a story from The Urban Daily that ran earlier this week. My question is even if it is the truth, what's the point of bringing it out now?

Here is story from The Urban Daily:

The true nature of Guru’s relationship with Solar has been a hot topic of debate since Guru went into the hospital and Solar began acting on his behalf.

Rapper Jacky Jasper, who is best known for his work with Kool Keith and also says he booked shows for Guru and Solar, claims to have the real story.

Jacky took to his blog and laid it all out. Is he telling the truth? Only time will tell, I suppose.

…Here’s something what [sic] you may not know (which I always knew) Guru, whose real name is Keith Elam, was a homosexual, and he started dating a well-known homosexual from Brooklyn New york named “DJ Solar”. Solar (real name John Barry Mo’Sher) ended up breaking up “Gang Starr” because he pulled Guru away from the talented “DJ Premier”, word is Solar wanted Guru all for himself. I know this because I used to book shows for “Guru & Solar” and dude use to beat on “Guru” I swear!!! I personally witnessed someone walking in on Solar giving Guru a proper beating behind closed doors.Sources close to HSK were touring Europe with Guru, Solar, and DJ Doo Wop & Kool Keith with Kutmasta Kurt in Fall 2005. At that time the groups had an extended week long stay in the Spanish Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. Guru happily lounged with Solar in his flip flops and swimming trunks downing Hennessy straight and snorting blow by the eightball.

Solar denied all rumblings of a romantic relationship between he and Guru in an interview with MTV News.

Jacky also posted up scans of both Solar & Guru’s passports, proving false that Guru was 43 when he died, when he was actually 48. This clears up a bit of in-office-discussion regarding an interview from 1998 that we posted earlier where Guru’s age was given as 36.

In another post, which has since been taken down, Jacky claims that Guru’s father, a retired Massachusetts superior court justice, sent the police to reclaim Guru’s body and have it sent back to Massachusetts.

Reports are coming into HSK that when Guru’s father, the Honorable Harry J. Elam, a former prominent lawyer from Boston and a retired Massachusetts superior court justice, called to recover the body from John “Solar” Mo’Sher, Solar said that he was taking the body upstate for a private memorial.

Judge Elam immediately made claim to the body and asked Solar to “return the body at once”, to which Solar replied that he would return the body if Elam Sr. called off the Elam nephew from continuing to make statements and videos about Solar. Claims which Solar continues to call false.

Judge Elam’s reply, “I don’t have time for these childish games, send my sons body home immediately.”

Following this exchange the police were sent and Guru’s body was recovered and is currently on its way back to Boston, to his family and to lay in honor as they see fit.

Whoa!

Now my question is, what is more important, an artist's sexual preference or their craft?
