Well What's Really Goin On?

When I was a teenager, Whitney Houston was the IT GIRL!!! She was the one they deemed "THE VOICE!" Now for years people have said that drugs deteriorated her voice, but is that really the case? My absolute favorite female vocalist has a history of drug problems, but her voice remained in tact; even until this day she can sing her face off. I don't know what has happened to Ms.Houston's voice, but my recommendation would be to bow out gracefully, and relish on the memories of what once was.
Her latest efforts at singing are not good at all. My prayer she gets it together.

Prince is set to debut a brand new song, “Cause And Effect,” on Minneapolis radio on Friday, February 26th.

National Public Radio station The Current, 89.3 FM in Minneapolis will debut a brand new song from the legendary funk/rock/pop/soul/you-name-it musician this Friday at 7AM. It’s unknown whether or not the song is a single from a new album, or just a one-off.

From The Current’s website:

The song is called “Cause and Effect,” and it’s a rocker – filled with virtuosic guitar work, explosive drum breaks, a poppy chorus, trademark shrieks and whoops, some intriguing lyrics (”if I had the chance to do it all again / I wouldn’t change a thing except my next of kin”) and a call to mankind (”you need compassion”). Opening with Prince’s classic pop smarts, the last minute of the tune swerves into a propulsive minor key guitar/strings/drum workout like we haven’t heard from him in years.

JANET set to Tour!!...Maybe?

Hey There Readers!...Well, The Jackson 5 are set to embark on a world tour. In the beginning, there were rumors of Janet being apart of this tour,but she has denied all claims to this.Now, according to her brother Jermaine "I'm determined to be in the limelight dammit" Jackson, Janet is set to take Michael's place.

Now, please correct me if I am wrong, but when the negotiations for this tour began, Michael was still alive and said he would NOT partake in this; so how is she taking his place? Jermain is quoted as saying "We had a conference call and Janet has agreed to join us on tour." Hmmm... all I can say is, we'll see how this plays out.

Te truth if the matter is, if Janet doesn't tour with them, they will NOT need an arena for the concerts; Maybe a small venue like The House of Blues, or B.B. Kings in NYC.

Ri Ri's Birthday Surprise

Well over the weekend, Rhianna celebrated her 22nd birthday this past weekend with a surprise party thrown by her alleged boyfriend L.A. Dodgers star player Matt "Gat-Damnit He Phyne" Kemp. Kemp went all out for this event who according to sources, has been planning this for at least a month. Kemp spared no expense and went all out.

According to E! Online, There were flowers, Sprinkles cupcakes, tiki torches in the pool, engraved bottles of Ace of Spades and Johnny Walker Blue, as well as a Jamaican chef who whipped up lots of appetizers for the crowd.

Around 40 people showed up, including both Rihanna's friends and some of Kemp's baseball pals.

Kemp brought out a cake decorated with the songstress' various tattoos, while everyone sang "Happy Birthday."

"It was so sweet and she was really surprised," the source said. "She looked just beautiful."

Kemp didn't stop his surprises with the singer's party, however.

According to the source, he gave the birthday girl a custom diamond necklace.

Although the couple has played coy about their budding relationship, they reportedly spent the entire weekend together, first going out on Friday night with a group of 30 on a party bus to new Arizona nightclub Revolver, and then ending the weekend with a group brunch on Sunday.

With all of that, he also paid for a stripper to surprise Ms.Ri Ri, a female little person! Hey! there's a freak in us all.


Yet she still says he's not her man, their just friends...well, can I please have a friend that looks like him, has paper like him and is willing to spend it and his time on me?

WTF? Is She Serious?

Hey Readers! Now this is the most ridiculous bullshit I've heard in a minute. Former porn star Joslyn James who had an affair with Tiger Woods is demanding a private apology; Is she serious? apparently she is, but why? Her role was to be a mistress, to be the other women. Now from my understanding she wasn't the main dip and why would she think otherwise? Ladies, if you're going to take on the role as mistress, then know the rules that come along with it.

Joslyn was a porn star when she met Tiger; I'm sure he's seen her in a few movies and became intrigued. She gave up her "career" because he said he loved her and she fell in love with him. She had her hopes set on him leaving his wife and being with her. Again, ladies allow this to be a lesson, MOST men aren't going to leave what they have at home for a mistress; especially one that's an ex porn star! Unless she's Karrine Steffans and I'm still at a loss for words about that one.

Elton John: JESUS was GAY??!

Hey readers; Now Sir Elton really believes Jesus was gay. Now when I first heard this, I said to myself, before I say anything, let me investigate further. He said this in an interview for an upcoming issue of Parade magazine.

“I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East — you’re as good as dead.”

Now after reading this, I get what he's saying; I think he feels this way because of HIS compassion toward mankind. It's really a read towards straight men/people (in my opinion).I'm sure once word gets out, he will catch all types of flack.

Ashanti's New Music based Reality Show.

Okay, damn it! I've heard it all; Alleged singer and songwriter Ashanti is the latest celebrity to receive a reality show! Now here's the gag, the show will be very similar to American Idol. They are keeping the specifics of the show hush hush, but here's a quote from Ashanti's mother Tina Douglas “It's an unscripted television show that is music related. Ashanti has her own record label, Written Entertainment, and the show is going to revolve around her label."
There is also a rumor that Ashanti will be the host of the show. I'm sure she will also sing the theme song and sing during a few episodes; I can't take it!

I Told Yall!..John Mayer is a racist to his heart!

Hey there readers! I tried to tell yall, John Mayer is a natural bred racist! Here's a story printed in 2006 on Gawker.com....Check it Out!

Tiger Woods Comes Out Of Hiding

Not since that terrible fight with his wife, I mean that terrible car crash on Thanksgiving night, have we heard anything from Tiger Woods. Well on tomorrow morning 11:00a.m. EST/10:00a.m. PST Tiger will hold a mini press conference apologizing to his wife and fans for letting them down. The Conference will be held at the PGA's headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

According to his agent Mark Steinberg " He will speak to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates" and that he "Will discuss his past and his future and he plans to apologize for his behavior." Now if his wife Elin Nordegren willbe there is not known; we'll have to tune in to find out.

Now I for one do not think he owes us anything. The only person he owes is his wife because the act of adultery was committed against her. I know a lot of people get caught up into the personal lives of their favorite celebrities and feel they know them personally, but c'mon!

Well Readers, what do you all think? does Tiger owe the world an apology? Even though I don't agree with him apologizing, I'm tuning in just to see what he has to say.

What is A Man?

Okay...So last week I had a conversation with one of my straight male friends. He asked the question, "How can a homosexual male, consider himself a man when he performs sexual acts in the same manner as a woman would in the bedroom?"

I responded that ones sexuality doesn't make him a "man" What goes on in a bedroom does NOT emasculate a man. I believe a man is one who handles his responsibilities, provides for himself and his household. How many women a man is sexing does not make him a man in my opinion!

Hey Readers! In the words of one of my dearest friends Lisa McDuffy, "Now he done tore his drawers!" When she says that, that means someone has messed up beyond repair. Oprah Winfery has instructed her staff to NEVER book John Mayer. His use of the word Nigger, his candid talk of his sexual excursions with Jessica Simpson and Oprah's close friend Jennifer Aniston have made the Queen of daytime a not so happy camper. I don't have to repeat what he said in his initial interview with Playboy; Hell, everyone knows.

Here's a quote from popeater.com:“Oprah is the smartest person on TV and will not let John use her or her show to ask for forgiveness,” a PopEater source dishes. “If John really wants to apologize for his racist and sexist comments, he should find somewhere else. The only way Oprah, who is a dear friend of Jennifer Aniston, would ever book him is if John were interested in having a much deeper conversation about race, women and fame.”

Now, I for one wouldn't accept his apology because it's how he really feels; He's not apologetic for what he said, he's sorry for saying it to a world wide publication. Oprah doesn't want or need him on her couch to boost ratings.
Maybe this will be a lesson learned and he'll know what thoughts to keep to himself.

Dr.Dre Suing Death Row Records

In the first quarter of 2009, a Canadian based company named WIDEawake Entertainment Inc. brought Deathrow Records from the owner and founder Marion "Suge" Knight. Since then they have released a plethora of unreleased and re-released material from former artists of the label.

On last week, Dr.Dre who was one of the top producers and artists of the label, filed a lawsuit against the new owners. The lawsuit entails Dre’s lawyers notified the new owners that he was owed unpaid royalties but they have failed to pay him. He claims the label breached his contract by releasing The Chronic Re-Lit which includes eight previously unreleased songs featuring Snoop Dogg, CPO, Kurupt and Jewell. Re-Lit also contains a mini movie with Dre and Snoop, a rare interview with Dr.Dre and the original 1992 commercial for the original Chronic release. Plus they also released a greatest hits compilation without obtaining Dre’s permission and securing the proper rights.

He also says that the label is in violation of his contract by selling the album digitally, since his contract with Death Row never included digital distribution rights.

Dre whose government name is Andre Young is asking for $75,000 in damages for breach of contract, false advertising, trademark infringement and misappropriation of publicity.

Flavor Flav is Behind on Child Support

Here we go again, another brother who is NOT handling his responsibilities. William Drayton Jr, known to the world as Flavor Flav, owes more than $63,000 in child support payments. His argument is he's paying for their three children education, but a judge has ruled in favor of his ex girlfriend, therefore increasing Angela Parker's monthly payments from $117.00 to $837.72 a month.

Now, Flavor Flav needs his ass whooped,he's complaining about an increase when he should know $117.00 A MONTH isn't going to do anything for one child. All together he has seven children. And that $837.72 is going to help, but it isn't what I would call a great amount.

Why do men with children complain about helping out their children? He wants a pat on the back for paying for their education, that's YOUR responsibility Mr.Flav!

Church Shooting Leaves 2 Injured

Here is a story from the San Francisco Chronicle:

(02-14) 20:05 PST RICHMOND -- Three young men with black sweatshirt hoods pulled over their heads walked into a packed church service in Richmond on Sunday, where one of them opened fire and wounded two teenagers sitting in the pews, police said

The three suspects - who may have been juveniles - fled after the brash 12:30 p.m. attack at New Gethsemane Church of God in Christ, as the singing of the choir was replaced by frightened screams, said Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French.

The two victims, a 14-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, were hospitalized and were expected to survive. However, French said, they were not willing to help investigators try to track down their assailants.

"The key people aren't being cooperative," she said.

A church deacon who was present during the shooting, Charles Miller, said one of the victims was struck in the leg and the other in the shoulder. It was not clear, both he and French said, whether they were intended targets.

Miller said some of the more than 120 church members who witnessed the shooting told him the suspects had paced up and down an aisle - apparently looking for one or more targets - before shooting the victims near the back of the church.

Church members "were going to ask them to remove their hoods" before the shooting, he said.

"I was listening to the choir and all of a sudden there was a 'pop pop pop pop pop,' " Miller said. "Everyone hit the floor. I didn't know the shooting was inside the church at first, until I heard all of the hollering and screaming."

The shooting, at 2100 Roosevelt Ave., comes amid a violent beginning to the year in Richmond, which has already recorded seven homicides. The city is still recovering from a violent gang rape outside a high school homecoming dance last year that made national headlines.

"Obviously it was a very brazen attack - in broad daylight during a church service," French said. "It's very unusual. You'd think a church is a safe place that people can go no matter what circumstances they have in their life or where they are in their life. After today, obviously not."

French said investigators were talking to witnesses and believe some of them can identify the suspects. But French said the congregants - apparently scared to get involved - were unwilling to look at photo lineups.

"I don't understand," French said. "Where do you draw the line?"

She said witnesses to violent crime in Richmond often believe they will face repercussions on the streets, but rarely do.

Miller, 64, said he was deeply troubled by the shooting, which showed a lack of respect for his church and its members.

"It's terrible when you come to the house of the Lord and start doing this," he said. "It's just something you don't do."

But after police emptied the church and processed the crime scene inside, Miller said, he and some of the congregants returned to finish services, which had begun at 11 a.m.

"We went on and had church anyway," Miller said. "We were giving thanks that nobody was killed. We wanted to go and serve the Lord anyway.


I can hear my grandmother now: "Chile, we are in the last and evil days!" This is crazy! This is the second church shooting within a year and a half in Richmond.In March of 2008, as they were setting up for a homeless outreach event at 7:30 a.m at The Church of The Living GOD, five volunteers were shot by a man wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and driving a pick up truck. Witness say he fired around ten rounds; killing one man and injuring four others. All I can ask, what's really going on? Even church isn't a safe haven anymore.
Now, I have faith in GOD and believe in HIS power, but this quote was a little over the top for me.
"In spite of the shooting that took place, Pastor Leviaz said he wasn't going to let anything stop God's program," said Rev. Andre Shumake, president of the Richmond Improvement Association. "So in spite of the shooting, I want the world to know that here at New Gethsemane, Gods' program continues. He held service, they sung they prayed and they worshiped God as though nothing had happened."

Fantasia Girl, Not Again!

Well, it seems like Fantasia is back to NOT performing in The Color Purple..AGAIN!
In the past, during her Broadway stint and her traveling stint; Fantasia would take a day or few days off from performing due to some type of medical condition. Well, this time the play is set in Los Angeles and Tasia will NOT be performing this weekend. Here's the official statement released from her camp:

The Color Purple regrets to announce that Fantasia will miss the remainder of this weekend’s performances of The Color Purple at the Pantages Theatre.

Fantasia did not perform in the Friday evening show due an inflammation of her vocal cords, and this morning, her doctor advised that for the fastest and most complete recovery she must sit out the remainder of the weekend.

She is scheduled to resume her usual performance week starting Tuesday, February 16th at 8:00 PM. Performances of The Color Purple will continue through the weekend as scheduled with an understudy in the role of ‘Celie’. Well, I wish Fantasia all the best and I hope her vocal chords heal properly. Now, I ain't one to gossip,but if you follow her reality show, she made a statement in the second or third episode about how she can't get it together when she has too much going on around her and is feeling stressed; that is what played apart in her missing so many dates of performing in play. Allegedly, she's dating 30 year old Antwaun Cook, a married Realtor/ T Mobile Retail Sales Manager. Now, Fantasia is saying they are only good friends; Uh huh Yeah girl... Go with that!
They have been photographed vacationing in Barbados, and she has his last name tatted above her breast; and the word on the block is he has moved in her luxurious home; forsaking his wife and one and four year old sons.
I mentioned this because dating a married man is stressful as hell and I'll tell Fantasia myself, No matter how phyne he is (and Antwaun Cook is phyne as hell)! He ain't worth the heartache and pain that's going to surely come. I guarantee, he's going to give her something to write and sing about.

What are Security Guards securing?

On January 28th, a 15 year old girl left Macy's department store where she was being harassed by ten teenagers.Making her way to the bus station, she asks the three male security guards for assistance, but according to The Seattle Weekly Newspaper these guys are contract workers. And their contract specifies that they're only allowed to "observe and report."

Not caring about the presence of the security guards, one of the girls jumps on the victim, wrestles her to the ground and began punching, kicking and stomping her in the head. While this is taking place, another young man steals the victim Macy purchases, purse, cell phone, and ipod. The security guards called 911 and three of attackers were caught, later on the girl who jumped on the victim was arrested and charged with felony second-degree assault.

People we have to be careful and make sure our children are careful. The people who were arrested ages range from 18-20.

The police who were already on the scene returned fire, but no one was injured.

The GREAT Return: 90's R&B

Remember back in the early and mid 90's when R&B was at it's peak? 2000 rolled around and suddenly we were like WTF is really going on? All of our favorite groups started to diminish without warning. Well, I just found out that three of our favorite 90's groups are reuniting and making a comeback! SWV, Groove Theory and Brownstone! You couldn't tell me anything when Weak, Use Your Heart, If You Love Me, Grapevine, Baby Love or Tell Me came on the radio or when I was blasting them on my CD player.
SWV and Groove Theory will have all original members; Brownstone has added a newcomer named Teisha Brown in which founding member Nicci Gilbert had this to say "Teisha brings so much to the group! She's a Detroit girl straight from the church, so we will be sangin' during these shows and on this record for sure,"
I have no doubts about that. I can NOT wait until the releases of all three projects.
Rumor has it, Groove Theory may have a single for radio as soon as two months! ..Just in time for summer! Well Until then, here's a lil something to tide us over. Enjoy Readers!

Recently Pop sensation John Mayer stated in an interview with playboy magazine that black people love him and he should be given a hood pass.
While explaining the meaning of a hood pass, Mayer said, "It's sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a nigger pass."..say what???

So now, he retracted his statement and issued an apology via twitter“I am sorry that I used the word. And it’s such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself.
It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there’s no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged.”

Another Reality Show...

Here we go again yall, Toni Braxton has just signed a deal with the Bravo for a new reality show entitled: Braxton Family Values. The show is slated to air in the fall and the only detail being released is about the entire Braxton family.As far as Toni's husband former keyboardist of Mint Condition Keri Lewis appearing in the show? I guess we'll have to wait and see. The couple made an announcement in November 09 that they were separating.
I swear, it seems as if they are giving away reality shows; and if they are, where is mine?

Sweeping Our Dirt Under The Rug

This is a story I came across and felt the need to address this.


*Writer, Armond White had some very harsh things to say about the movie, “Precious” in an article in the New York Press. He blames Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.

"SHAME ON TYLER PERRY and Oprah Winfrey for signing on as air-quote executive producers of Precious.

Perry and Winfrey naively treat Precious’ exhibition of ghetto tragedy and female disempowerment as if it were raw truth. It helps contrast and highlight their achievements as black American paradigms—self-respect be damned.

He goes on to compare the movie to the “Birth Of A Nation,” the 1915 movie which portrayed Africans Americans as evil and stupid and the KKK as heroes.

Not since The Birth of a Nation has a mainstream movie demeaned the idea of black American life as much as Precious. Full of brazenly racist clichés (Precious steals and eats an entire bucket of fried chicken), it is a sociological horror show. Offering racist hysteria masquerading as social sensitivity, it’s been acclaimed on the international festival circuit that usually disdains movies about black Americans as somehow inartistic and unworthy.

Birth of a Nation glorified the rise of the Ku Klux Klan as a panicky subculture’s solution to social change. Precious hyperbolizes the class misery of our nation’s left-behinds—not the post- Rapture reprobates of Christianity’s last-days theories, but the Obama-era unreachables—including Precious’ Benetton-esque assortment of remedial school classmates. One explanation is that Precious permits a cultural version of that 1960s political controversy “benign neglect”—its agreed-upon selection of the most pathetic racial images and social catastrophes helps to normalize the circumstances of poverty and abandon that will never change or be resolved.You can think: Precious is just how those people are (although Cops and the Jerry Springer and Maury Povich shows offer enough evidence that white folks live low, too)."*

When I read this, all I could do was shake my head and wonder, when will black people stop sweeping their dirt under the rug? I wish we would address what goes on within our families and our communities then maybe we could come up with solutions.When the movie was first released, there were all types of reviews; some positive and a lot negative. The positive came from movie critics; the ones who are paid to do so. The majority of the negative was spewed from the mouths of black critics; some paid to do so, others just ordinary people offering their opinion. The gag is a lot of the negative opinions came from people who refused to watch and support the movie saying it was modern day buffoonery. How can one critique something they've never seen?
By now, everyone knows the basis of the movie; when I asked my niece who happens to be a social worker if she thought this was realistic she said "It was so real, a few times I almost had to leave the theater...I see cases like this or really similar all the time." The truth of the matter is, we all know or know of a Claireese "Precious" Jones.
We try to pretend we have it all together, as if everything is perfect. We don't wanna give "them" anything else to talk about, don't want "them" all up in our business so we sweep it under the rug. Molestation, Rape, Suicide, Abuse, just sweep it all under the rug and forget it's there, pray that it goes away! That's what we've been doing for centuries and the reality is, that's why so many of us are messed up inwardly. Situations of the past that have been left unsaid has caused so many of us mental turmoil.
It's time to talk about it, release it and work it out! For a lot of people criticizing this movie, I'm sure they're viewing this as a mirror being held up to them and they're afraid of facing their truth. What do you all, the readers think? please chime in on this one.

Well just what we need, another reality show! Coming our way soon...It's All About Faith! chronicling the day to day steps of Faith Evans. The former First Lady of Bad Boy Records, has been on a hiatus from music for five years after her one and only Columbia Records release The First Lady;soon after she was dropped from the label.

Faith took time off to regroup, and become a devoted mother and wife to her husband/manager Todd Russaw and their four children; two of which are from Faith's previous relationships including her son Christopher Jr. whose father was the late Christopher Wallace a.k.a The Notorious B.I.G.

The show will show how Faith is taking strides to get back in the game, taking care of her children and recording her sixth studio album. Here is a statement Faith released to the press “2010 is shaping up to be an amazing year for me! To be in a place where I have grown from an entertainer to an entrepreneur is truly a blessing. I am excited to share this incredible experience with my fans and the world.”

Maia Campbell

Look who's looking better these days, it's Maia Campbell. You all may remember her best from the hit television series In The House where she starred as the smart mouth teenager named Tiffany opposite L.L. Cool J and Kim Wayans. Over the years, Maia has suffered from depression and drug addiction. She received help for both and was doing better, but then her mom, noted author BeBe Moore Campbell died from Cancer and that sent Maia into a relapse. The last time we saw her, she was being video taped while sitting in a car eating Dorito's and ranting with a drug induced state of mind. After that tape was broadcast all over the world via YouTube, her family stepped in and placed her in rehab. On yesterday, she was spotted by well known photographer Seven who said Maia was looking great, and seemed to be in great spirits; very positive and upbeat! Where Are The Parents?

This is a prime example why parents need to monitor what their children do. This 11 year old child should NOT be singing this song; grant it, she sounds 100% better than Cassie (the original artist who sang the hook), but still...these are not the lyrics for a child. Infidelity: Who's To Blame?

A few years ago, a friend of mine who was single at the time said " If any man gay or straight says that he is faithful, then that man is a liar!" We debated about this for several hours. I said that's not true because I'm a man and I know how to be faithful, I'm not afraid of commitment. He found another man to side with him and his response was, "We (men) are born to cheat! Look at the lions,they have numerous mates..." I said it then, and I say it now, that is a load of bullsh*t!

The reality is, it's about self control; No matter if you're single, just dating, or married, you're going to see someone you consider attractive. That does NOT mean you have to sleep with them.Even though infidelity has been around since the beginning of time, it seems now it's at an all time high.

Now here's a question, say your mate/spouse cheats and has a child with the person, how would you handle it? would you take it out on the other person, your mate or the innocent child? Well I hope none of my readers aren't anything like Kisha Jones from Brooklyn,NY. Jones a scorned 38 year old woman who took revenge to twisted levels beyond words, found out her husband was having an affair with a 25 year old woman who was also was seven months pregnant.
Jones then played detective, got the woman's name (Mo'Nique Hunter),used a stolen prescription pad to prescribe cytotec also known as the abortion pill. She then (allegedly) used a spoof calling website and posed as someone from Ms.Hunter's doctor's office tell her the drug would prevent the baby being born with down syndrome. Ms.Hunter took the drug and went into premature labor. The baby still in intensive care, survived in spite of and that didn't sit well with Mrs.Jones.She then sent a man into the hospital who was to deliver breast milk from the mother. The hospital being leery, tested the white liquid and found out it was a toxic substance. The man has yet to be identified, but Jones is now charged with attempted abortion, assault, reckless endangerment, forgery and criminal impersonation.

And for what? all because her husband was cheating. Why should she go after an innocent child? or in my opinion Mo'Nique Hunter? Her relationship/marriage is with her husband (Anthony Jones). Now because she was blinded by fury and rage, her freedom is being taken away and rightfully so. Now readers, let's talk about this, Do you confront the other person or your mate if infidelity takes place? Let's Dish and talk about it!

Former Ruff Ryder, Rapper and Actress Eve has been linked to a multi-million dollar money laundering investigation centred around her ex boyfriend Teodorin Nguema. According to ABC News, Eve's name is mentioned in the massive U.S. Senate investigation, which has been under wraps for the past three years.
Eve Jeffers (Eve's government name), is named as the president of Sweet Pink, Inc., a firm set up in late 2005 and reportedly used by Obiang. He claims "it was used to employ individuals at the home he (Obiang) maintained before he purchased the Malibu Property and to handle payroll and other matters related to the employment of those individuals".

JIll Scott Sued By Hidden Beach Records!

Jill Scott is being sued by her longtime record label, which is accusing the multi-platinum R&B songstress of skipping out halfway through a six-album contract and potentially owing millions of dollars in damages.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by L.A.-based Hidden Beach Records on Feb. 3, claims that the label and its founder, Steve McKeever, helped launch Scott's career and nurtured her into a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter but was unceremoniously dumped in October after a 10-plus year relationship.

"Hidden Beach is shocked by her decision not only because Scott has apparently chosen to leave the Hidden Beach family," the complaint reads, "but also because Scott is contractually required to deliver three more albums to Hidden Beach."

The complaint alleges causes of action for breach of contract and damages owed under a section of California's Labor Code sometimes known as the "De Havilland Law." Named after actress Olivia De Havilland's successful fight in the '40s against long-term studio deals, it provides that talent cannot be bound by personal services contracts for longer than seven years.

Hidden Beach isn't disputing that Scott's deal violated the seven-year rule but the law carves out a requirement that certain recording artists who wish to terminate their lengthy deals must reimburse their labels in the amount the labels would have received under the terms of the contracts.

Since breaking onto the scene with the double-platinum selling "Who Is Jill Scott?" album in 2000, Scott's studio albums (and live albums) have generated millions in revenue. So while Hidden Beach's alleged damages are unspecified in the complaint, under California law they could total several million dollars.

The lawsuit is unusually detailed in its description of the small label's close relationship with Scott. She clearly was the center of attention for McKeever. The complaint alleges he paid her million-dollar advances when he wasn't required to, allowed her to keep merchandising revenue, paid $450,000 to fund a concert DVD that Scott later asked not be released, bought her lavish gifts and indulged her desire to slow her recording schedule to pursue an acting career (Scott has appeared in the films "Houndog," "Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?" and HBO's "No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency").

"Hidden Beach feels that Jill Scott is an incredibly talented artist," the company's lawyer Lawrence Hinkle told us. "No one regrets that this lawsuit had to be filed more than Hidden Beach, but its hands were tied and it had no other option."

A call to Scott's attorney Stephen Barnes was not immediately returned
